Water for Water

I am only going to drink water for all of 2013.  I know it sounds strange.  Let me explain what I'm doing, why and how you can help:

What:  Refraining from any beverage as a drink except water for one whole year.

Why: I really like coffee, tea, root beer, bee.....er-soda, and lots of different drinks.  Not only do I spend at least $50 a month on these things, but I have come to realize that I can have all of these things any time I want and as much as I want.  THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH ANY OF THESE DRINKS IN AND OF THEMSELVES.  To the contrary, I think these can be a catalyst to sitting around with friends and having some great conversation.  I just have started to realize not only how much money I spend on these things, but that I rarely appreciate how freely I can access these drinks.  Then I watch a video like this one:

and I'm blown away.  If you watch it (it's only 3 minutes, its the one on the right "AC Promo 2012") pay attention starting at 1min40sec.  Every time I watch this or think about this video, I think about those kids and communities jumping with joy simply because they have, for the first time, clean water. I have 6 sinks in my house.  I just want to try something extraordinary that would not only help change and focus myself on what I truly "need" but also something to help these communities that don't have water.

How you can help:  If you want, and no pressure if you don't, I'm looking for sponsors for a certain amount per day.  For example, if you tell me you will sponsor me for a penny a day, and if I make it the whole year, then you would donate $3.65 to Living Water International.  Not to me, but directly to the organization.  You get the tax credit.  A dime a day - $36.50 at the end of the year.  $1 a day - $365.00.  You get the picture.  Its simply the honor system.  I'll never know if you make the donation or not.  But if I know people are willing to contribute, supporting me along the way, it will help me as I go through the sacrifice and encourage me throughout the year.  You can comment on this post, on my facebook post, or email me at w4w2013@gmail.com and give me your pledge.  On January 1st, 2013, I'll announce the total sponsorship for the year.  Even if it is only a total of $10, that's $10 more than the organization has now.


I'm going to try to blog monthly about the process and how God is working within me as the year progresses (if you sponsor there is no obligation to read my blog) and helping me realize what I really "need" in this life.
